Community agreements
At the Asian Birth Collective, our spaces & events are led with intention, to create room for openness, vulnerability, kindness and respect. It is important to us that our collective members feel comfortable sharing and receiving, to know their voices are heard and respected.
Community agreements are a means for everyone to share and receive what they need, and commit to one another to create an environment that feels supported and trusted.
When you choose to be a member of the Asian Birth Collective by being a part of our diectory, sharing your birth story, or attending any Asian Birth Collective gatherings, you consent to the following agreements:
Centering queer and trans Asian voices & stories
ABC is unapologetically a Queer & Trans space. We are not just inclusive. We ARE Queer & Trans.
Remember our differences
The Asian diaspora is incredibly diverse, so our gatherings and our work together will be too. Remember, honor, and value these differences so we can learn from each other.
Make space, take space
Be mindful of taking up too much space: if you find yourself sharing often, invitation to listen actively, and if you find yourself not sharing, invitation to share when you're ready.
Notice power & privilege dynamics
Power shows up in many different ways—be aware of how you might be unconsciously using your privilege and power.
Call each other in
When challenging someone's ideas or behavior, give feedback respectfully. When your own ideas or behavior are challenged, receive feedback respectfully.
Assume good intentions, and attend to impact
It’s very rare for someone in a space like this to say something hurtful on purpose, but hurtful things can still sometimes be said. If that happens, let’s slow down and see what’s needed, call each other in, and move along with trust.
Confidentiality
Take the lessons, leave the details.
Self care and community care
We do our best to be present on time. Pay attention to what you need, and how your neighbor is doing.
